September Challenge – Back to Basics

Over the summer months I have spent time thinking about Change.  Children growing up and going to high school, new work, new challenges. I have realised this is the ONE thing, that we all could do with understanding and making our friend. I have always said to my patients, the way you sleep, eat, move, manage stress and deal with your relationships currently, is linked to how you feel TODAY .

If you want to feel different, something has to CHANGE. Making changes as we all know is difficult and challenging. But realising that we are on a journey and we are learning all the time is a good place to start. As the new school year starts, why not take up my September challenge and make September your month to start on your journey?

September can be your month of going back to basics: clear out your cupboards of any processed foods, sugar, breads and cakes and go shopping –  fill your cupboards with:

  • Fruit : e.g. Berries, Apricots, Apples
  • Protein: e.g. Chicken, Fish, Eggs  and Nuts (almond, walnuts, cashew), Lentils, chickpeas
  • Vegetables:  e.g. Avocado, Broccoli, Kale, Cauliflower, Sweet Potato
  • Non-dairy: e.g.  Almond and Coconut Milk
  • Dairy: e.g. Full fat Greek yoghurt
  • Seeds: e.g. Pumpkin, Chia, Hemp and Sunflower (sprinkle on your porridge/add to stews)
  • Spices: e.g.  Curry powder, chilli powder, turmeric, cinnamon, cayenne, paprika

My challenge to you is to come up with as many different recipes as you can using the above ingredients.  You can post your recipes/photographs on our face book and twitter pages to give inspiration to others. Search the internet for recipes – you will be surprised how many different recipes you will come up with using these ingredients.  I can assure you they will be delicious, quick and easy.

I know I am asking you to take a number of steps things in this challenge. Set out the steps and take the first one and see how you feel. Your first step might be realising that you can feel different,  writing a list of steps,seeing if you have what you need to cook with or just clearing out the cupboards.

Change is journey of small steps both forward and backward, knowing the steps, allowing yourself to move both forward and back and to learn from each step allows for change to happen. Try one step and see how your feel.
